Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services and Local 12 Job Fair

On Tuesday, November 12th, Local 12 and the Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services joined forces to promote inclusivity and diversity in the workforce. While the event was open to all, individuals with disabilities were encouraged to come and speak with many employers that were present and willing to talk seriously about their futures. Around 20 employers came ready to do on the spot interviews with anyone who was committed to taking the next step in their future.

“The job fair was about showcasing people with disabilities and the skills, interests, and talents they have and how they can contribute to the workforce. It was a wonderful way to highlight our community partners and businesses committed to inclusive hiring,” Nathan Beck, Employment Coordinator for Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services.

Superintendent for the Hamilton County DD Services, Alice Pavey, was passionate that “it’s really important that people with disabilities get jobs in the community because it means so much to them. They are incredibly dependable and sincere and they really enjoy coming to work.”

One sponsor, Easterseals was present to help ease the process for all the potential employees with employers. “We educate folks about the advantages of hiring people with disabilities and we help them through the interview and application process,” said Easterseals director Gary Pottebaum. “We don’t focus on the ‘can’t.’ We focus on the ‘can’ and push them in that direction.”
