“Ohio operates in a Russian Roulette climate.”

We all know the sayings about Southwestern Ohio weather. Though our weather changes on a daily, and sometimes minute-by-minute basis, we are headed towards a new season, cooler temperatures, and holidays. Says MPI Ohio Chapter, now is the best time to start planning ways to “maximize meeting effectiveness October through December.”

What’s the easiest, most effective way to embrace fall and winter months? Utilize the changing holidays to bring new excitement to your team meetings and parties. For example, try incorporating Halloween to get attendees more interested and involved this October. We don’t recommend going all-out and insisting everyone attends the meeting in a costume—it can be as simple as kicking off the meeting with a discussion of what your costume or party plans are, asking attendees to bring their own favorite Halloween candy or treat, or sharing stories of favorite costumes or adventures in the past.

“Remember, utilizing a theme or integrating a few minutes of discussion related to a theme does not mean you cannot get work done! In fact, if you take a break every 40 minutes and come back with similar discussions, you may be shocked at the consistent energy level in the room. In our experience, energy usually equals ideas, productivity and meeting success.”

Meeting suggestions like these ring true for each holiday we have coming up on our calendars. This month, brainstorm how you can utilize each season and holiday to come up with festive ideas to encourage your attendees to get involved at your next meeting. Use your creativity and your team’s ideas to see what people will enjoy doing or talking about the most.
