
School lunches have been a source of humor and jokes in the past such as Adam Sandler’s Lunch Lady Land SNL skit and have been known to be greasy and overall unhealthy. The School Nutrition Association of Ohio, an affiliate of the School Nutrition Association, has been advancing the availability, quality, and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1968. The Association strives to see that all children have access to healthy school meals and nutrition education.
SNA of Ohio is a volunteer-based organization that provides education and training to schools all across Ohio. They go one step beyond by not only being a resource for the school’s but also the community’s nutritional needs. They provide opportunities for the community to learn how school meals are a model for healthy eating. Encouraging physical activities to go hand-in-hand with supporting programs such as Fuel-up to Play 60 and the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.
The menus are planned to meet the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and USDA guidelines while being tasty and appealing to students. School meals and snacks should always be prepared with the goal to improve and sustain health and well-being while contributing to the development of healthy eating habits. They always maintain ethical and effective procurement practices using the highest quality and safest ingredients while being environmentally responsible.
